Tailings Slurry

Tailings slurry is generated during mineral processing and typically contains fine solid particles with a high water content. Depending on the material characteristics, it can also be abrasive and corrosive.
When wet tailings enter a tailings storage facility without sufficient dewatering, they occupy more storage volume and may increase the risk of leakage and contamination. Therefore, effective dewatering helps reduce the volume of tailings and the associated storage requirements.
KOSUN Tailings Dewatering System uses screening and centrifugal separation to process the slurry. First, the screening stage removes coarse particles. Next, centrifugal dewatering separates fine solids from the liquid phase and reduces the moisture content of the tailings.
As a result, the dewatered solids can be prepared for dry stacking or further handling, while the separated water can be recovered and recycled for reuse where suitable.
Tailings Dewatering Solution
KOSUN integrates vibrating screening and decanter centrifugation to provide a continuous tailings dewatering solution.
First, the vibrating screen performs front-end screening and pretreatment. It removes coarse sand, gravel, and other larger particles from the tailings slurry before the centrifugal dewatering stage. This helps reduce the load on downstream equipment and provides stable feed conditions.
Next, the decanter centrifuge performs solid-liquid separation and deep dewatering. High-speed centrifugal sedimentation separates fine tailings particles from the liquid phase and reduces the moisture content of the dewatered solids.
In addition, the system uses a modular layout and PLC-based control. An automatic centrifuge cleaning function also supports continuous and stable operation.
Through the combined screening and centrifugal dewatering process, the system reduces tailings volume, prepares dewatered solids for dry stacking or further handling, and enables recovery of separated water for recycling and reuse where suitable.
Main Equipment
LS608 Shale Shaker

The LS608 shale shaker performs front-end screening and pretreatment of tailings slurry. It removes coarse particles before centrifugal dewatering and helps provide stable feed conditions for downstream equipment.
DC650 Decanter Centrifuge

The DC650 decanter centrifuge performs solid-liquid separation and deep dewatering of fine tailings. Its wear-resistant design supports applications involving abrasive materials and helps reduce the moisture content of tailings for dry stacking or further handling.
DC750 Decanter Centrifuge

The DC750 decanter centrifuge provides high-capacity solid-liquid separation and deep dewatering for fine tailings. It is designed for tailings treatment applications requiring higher processing capacity and continuous operation.
Applications
Tailings Dewatering
The system processes high-water-content tailings slurry from mineral processing and reduces its moisture content and volume.
Tailings Dry Stacking Preparation
The dewatered tailings solids can be prepared for dry stacking or subsequent handling.
Mining Water Recovery
The system separates water from tailings slurry and supports water recovery, recycling, and reuse where suitable.
Tailings Resource Utilization
The reduced-volume tailings and recovered water support more efficient tailings handling and resource utilization.
