Do you know the importance of a drilling fluids mud pump used in drilling?

Oct 20, 2023

The drilling fluids mud pump is often referred to as the heart of drilling, and its importance cannot be overstated. The efficiency of drilling operations depends greatly on the proper selection of mud pumps. Around the year 2000, the petroleum industry achieved drilling rates of thousands of meters per day, thanks to the correct choice of mud pumps. This demonstrates the exceptional role of drilling fluid pump pumps.

There are three main types of drilling fluids mud pump for solids control system: reciprocating pumps, centrifugal pumps, and screw pumps. Reciprocating pumps are widely used in geological exploration core drilling due to their small variation in pump rate with pressure, simple operation and maintenance, long lifespan, and low manufacturing cost. Centrifugal pumps have high efficiency, large pump rate, and significant variation in pump rate with pressure. They can be used for large-diameter and shallow-hole drilling, also known as sand pumps. Screw pumps, although more complex in manufacturing and shorter in the lifespan of vulnerable parts have a simple structure, fewer vulnerable parts, stable operation, and large and stable pump output. With the improvement of mechanical materials and manufacturing technology, screw pumps will be increasingly used in drilling operations.

The drilling fluids mud pump is one of the components of drilling equipment and is a machine that converts mechanical energy into liquid pressure energy. The drilling fluids mud pump has the following uses in drilling operations:
1. Removal of cuttings: During the drilling process, the drill bit continuously breaks rocks and generates cuttings. The pump circulates the mud to wash away the cuttings and carry them to the surface, ensuring a clean hole bottom and facilitating further rock breaking by the drill bit.
2. Supply of energy to the drilling tools: The pump can deliver energy-containing fluid to screw drilling tools, hydraulic impactors, and other hydraulic impact drilling tools to provide power.
3. Conveyance of special substances: In certain specialized operations, such as sealing or plugging holes, the pump is used to inject special materials, such as cement slurry or other plugging substances, into the hole.
4. Assessment of hole conditions: Using instruments on the pump, operators can obtain real-time information about the conditions inside the hole from the surface.
