1.Characteristics and application range

LS is the code for screw conveyors, where L represents the screw and S represents horizontal.  LS screw conveyors are available in eleven different diameters: 100, 160, 200, 250, 315, 400, 500, 630, 800, 1000, and 1250mm.  The maximum length of a single drive unit is 35m (LS1000 and LS1250 have a maximum length of 30m).  They can transport materials with temperatures below 200°C in a unidirectional manner with an inclination angle of less than 20°, operating in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 50°C.

2.Advantages of LS screw conveyors include:

(1) Simple structure and small cross-sectional dimensions, resulting in lower manufacturing costs.

(2) Easy intermediate loading and unloading at various positions.

(3) Convenient and safe operation.

(4) The machine cover provides good sealing along the entire length of the screw conveyor, effectively isolating the input materials from the external environment.

3.Disadvantages of LS screw conveyors include:

(1) Higher power consumption due to the need to overcome the friction between the materials and the casing and screw during material movement.

(2) Material fragmentation occurs due to the action of the screw during transportation.

(3) Intense wear on the screw and casing.

Due to the aforementioned advantages and disadvantages, LS screw conveyors are primarily used for conveying various powders, granular materials, and small pieces in various industries.  Suitable materials include coal powder, flour, cement, sand, grains, coke, and stones.  It is not suitable for conveying materials that are prone to spoilage, have high viscosity, or tend to form clumps, as these materials may adhere to the screw and rotate without moving forward, or form material blockages at the suspension bearings, rendering the screw conveyor almost inoperative.

Screw conveyors are not suitable for transporting large chunks of materials due to the small effective cross-sectional area through which the material can flow.  

Screw conveyors require uniform feeding; otherwise, it can easily lead to blockages and overload the machine. The suspension bearings and shaft bushings of the screw conveyor tend to wear out quickly and often require repairs.
