The soil remediation still has a long way to go.

May 22, 2019

Recently, safety, quality and safety issues and disputes caused by soil have emerged in an endless stream, which has gradually threatened our physical and mental health and social stability. According to the "National Soil Pollution Status Survey Bulletin" jointly issued by the former Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Land and Resources in 2014, there are 320 seriously polluted areas in China, about 5.48 million hectares. According to the report of “China Land and Resources News” in 2015, the proportion of heavy metals exceeding the standard level accounted for 8.2% among the 1.386 billion mu of cultivated land in the surveyed area.

In recent years, China has gradually recognized the necessity of soil remediation, and corresponding measures have been continuously introduced. On September 25, 2017, the “Management Methods for Soil Environment in Agricultural Lands” clearly defined such activities as soil pollution prevention, soil pollution status survey, environmental monitoring, environmental quality classification, and systematic management. On May 3, 2018, the "Management Methods for Soil Environment of Industrial and Mining Lands (Trial)" was released. On August 31, 2018, the Fifth Session of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress passed the “Soil Pollution Prevention and Control Law of the People's Republic of China”, which was officially implemented on January 1, 2019. This law is a special law in the field of soil pollution control, filling the legislative gap in the field of environmental protection, especially soil pollution prevention.

These laws have promoted the improvement of the technological levels of enterprises, and the enterprises with technological competitiveness will have more development prospects. Relevant industry insiders indicate that the market space for soil remediation has been opened and the industry is expected to be stable. Some analysts predict that from 2019 to 2020, the market investment in soil remediation is expected to rise to CNY198 billion, far beyond the imagination of atmosphere and water pollution control.
