Five major effects of mud in bored piles

Jan 18, 2022

The effect of mud in bored piles is particularly important. According to the characteristics of mud, it can be roughly divided into 5 major functions. The mud is implemented in the whole construction process of the bored pile. If there is a problem with the performance of the mud, all the construction of the cast-in-place pile foundation will be chaotic, which will affect the quality prediction of the entire bored pile and the entire cast-in-place pile. Therefore, it is necessary to grasp and control the important link of mud treatment of bored piles, so as to minimize the adverse factors of engineering construction caused by mud.

The effects of drilling and pouring engineering mud are as follows:
1) Reuse and reduce waste: the mud of bored pile driving engineering can be recycled, and the extracted mud is used for mud. After the pulp treatment equipment is processed, it can be used continuously to reduce waste and construction cost.

2) The effect of cleaning the borehole: In the construction of the bored cast-in-place pile, the borehole must be cleaned immediately after the hole is formed. The purpose of the hole cleaning is to prevent the gravel and sand particles from precipitating in the hole, so that the precipitation will be larger than the specified amount thickness. During the drilling process, the mud will take out the drill cuttings and flush them in a cycle, which cools and lubricates the drill bit. Thereby, the repeated breaking process of drill cuttings by the drill bit is also reduced, thereby reducing the wear of the drill bit.

3) During the construction of bored piles, a large amount of mud will be produced. If not properly handled in time, it will cause serious environmental pollution! At present, the state has issued a series of policies and guidelines for environmental protection. In order to achieve zero discharge of waste mud, effective mud treatment measures must be taken.

4) The effect of drilling mud on the retaining wall is particularly critical and important in the process of hole forming. The mud has a certain density, and the mud can fill and compact the pores in different soil layers in the borehole, forming a layer of dense mud with very low water permeability, avoiding water leakage on the inner wall of the hole and maintaining a certain water pressure in the hole, which is helpful to maintain the stability of the hole wall.

5) One of the basic requirements of mud treatment for bored pile driving engineering is to take the broken rock and soil cuttings out of the borehole in order to maintain the continuous process of drilling. When the mud circulation is temporarily interrupted, the mud can suspend the drilling cuttings, it will not sink quickly and prevent the risk of sand settling and sticking. During the positive circulation drilling, the mud will suspend the drill cuttings and discharge them.
